Why are Teeth Whitening Trays Necessary?

The teeth whitening trays are necessary for teeth whitening at home because they hold the whitening gel in the proper place for the best results. The custom made trays have what are called whitening reservoirs built in. The reservoirs are small spaces between the trays and the teeth. This is the area where the gel covers the teeth and is held in place. Without the whitening reservoirs, the gel would not stay in it's proper place for the best whitening results.

How are the Whitening Trays Created?

Las Vegas cosmetic dentist Dr. Tomaro will take a mold of your mouth and then send it to a special dental laboratory where the whitening trays will be created. The dental lab technician creates a cast from this mold and applies a thin coat of plastic to each tooth on the cast. This thin layer of plastic acts as the gel on the teeth.

A plastic sheet is vacuum molded over the cast with the plastic layer and is formed to create the teeth whitening trays. The thin plastic coat holds the plastic sheet just far enough away from the teeth on the cast to create the whitening reservoir. The plastic tray is then removed from the cast and adjusted to fit flawlessly in your mouth.
